Why Do We Dedicate Babies at MCC?
|
|
A baby dedication is a ceremony in which Christian parents have an opportunity to commit their child and themselves to raise that child according to God’s Word and God’s ways. This is not a baptism that secures the Child's salvation, as they have not yet reached the age of accountability for their salvation. It is an opportunity for parents to acknowledge God’s sovereignty over them and their child and to ask for help from God and the congregation to in carrying out their responsibilities to teach and train a child in the ways of God.
The inspiration for dedicating babies comes out of the Bible in 1 Samuel 1:27-28 as Hannah dedicates her son Samuel:
"27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. 28 So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD."

Baby Dedication Rehearsal
On the Saturday of the baby dedication weekend, a rehearsal will be held at 9AM (meet in the Welcome Center), which will go over any logistics and details that parents need to know about the baby dedication service. Only one parent is required to attend (although both are recommended) and the baby being dedicated does not need to be there. Again this rehearsal is held on the Saturday of the baby dedication weekend; either hours before or the day before the baby dedication (depending on the service you choose for baby dedication).

Baby Dedication Services
Our baby dedication services are held 4 times each year as a part of weekly worship services (Saturdays 5:30, Sundays 8:30 am, 10:00 am, 11:30 am). We make every effort to meet preferences for baby dedication dates and times, but the number of dedications in each service is limited. The deadline for requesting baptism is two weeks before the baby dedication service. Upcoming dates are listed on the registration form.

Baby Dedication & Membership
Having your baby dedicated does not automatically make you (or your baby) a member of Montgomery Community Church. Anyone who wishes to become a member must complete our Membership Classes.
